Like the time I was locked inside a Greek Orthodox church on a Saturday afternoon. Was the priest coming back after lunch or would I be there until Sunday? This was on the day between tours when I had just finished a RS GAS tour and was about to start a Cosmos tour of Greece. My husband advised later that I wait until someone would know I was missing before embarking on private excursions.
- Or the time the hot water plumbing burst when I was staying at a convent in France and flooded the entire bathing complex? I slipped as I got out of the bath, grabbed the sink to stop my fall, the sink pulled away from the wall, burst the pipe and then it was Old Faithful up close and personal. Or the time… I agree, the glitches make the best post-trip stories.
- Our unplanned travel event started in March. We had plans to depart Italy, travel Europe and return to US in August. Well after an 8 week lockdown, cancellation of all the Europe plans, we ended up with some awesome trips in Italy over the summer.
- Today we are expecting the unexpected as we have flights in two weeks to return to the US….finally. Our Barley has to fly in cargo instead of on the QM2. So if our plans work, we will all be back on US soil by November 18.
I have so many wonderful memories, like one of the first visitors in Israel after the scrimmage with warring states, Egypt, Greece,Turkey and China. All having internal problems, but all went well. Except falling in China, missing my visit to the wall, but got a personal tour of Beijing hospital. (Not on the tour) Met many interesting people and don’t retreat anything. Just wish I could have done this before I was 65.
I was able to figure out how to take the U-bahn to the Berlin Zoo, and the Tierpark Berlin, and that the train was running to Hannover, so I could visit that zoo. at the Hannover Hbf, a maintenance worker was sweeping and found a beautiful silver antique brooch, and handed it to me as I was waiting for a train, saying it was for me. One of my most treasured souvenirs. It all worked out.
