I varied the water holding capability of the soil from forty-70% and measured soil respiration rates every day to estimate microbial activity. I found that isolates originating from warming plots had larger yields and progress charges in liquid cultures, and shorter lag times. In addition, isolates from warmed soils adjusted rapidly to water limiting circumstances and grew strongly even at forty% WHC. This work means that Actinobacteria’s tolerance to drought allows them to thrive in dry situations. With warming temperatures come droughts.
