The Vikings is the name used to refer to the explorers, merchants, warriors, pirates from Scandinavia, (the territory of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland of the Nordic region. today) in the late Stone Age. People often refer to the Vikings as traveling warriors on boats or pirates, but they are also good farmers and traders. Viking pirates sailed across Europe and the North Atlantic in long boats, sacked and conquered most of Europe’s rich lands, and settled in the conquered lands. . The Viking era started around the end of the 8th century and lasted until the middle of the 11th century.

One of the earliest Viking military expeditions, recorded in Anglo-Saxon history, was the invasion of Portland, near the Dorset county of England, in 787. June 793, Saxons recorded attack on the monastery on Lindisfarne Island (also known as Holy Island) in eastern England. Over the next 200 years, European history was filled with records of Viking pirates and their raids.
