What Donald Trump is concerned about is the massive election of postal voting. According to him, that would encourage cheating. Mr. Trump relentlessly declared: “Voting by post will cause terrible fraud. There will be a ton of fraud. You cannot send millions, millions of votes everywhere.”
But in general, fraud in the election is a rare phenomenon in America. Between 1979 and 2020, fewer than 1,300 cases of fraud were recorded in all elections in the US, according to the consulting agency The Heritage Foundation. In Oregon, for example, the majority of its people since 1998 have voted by mail. By 2019, more than 15 million votes were cast by mail and only 14 cases of fraud had been recorded.
