Since ancient times, in addition to writing, the runes system has been used for divination and magic. The word “rune” really means mysterious, secret. Each rune has its own mystical meaning and characteristics, in addition to their negative value and common sense. Each character translates into a word or phrase implying concepts that are important to those who have previously used them, representing the forces of nature and spirit. Each rune has a story associated with it, a relationship with a Norse god.
Odin, the Supreme Norse God of Aesir, hung from the world tree Yggdrasil, stabbed on his own spear for nine days and nights to gain the knowledge of the runes. When runes appeared below him, he reached out and picked them up, and knowledge of runes gave him strength. He then passed this knowledge on to the goddess Freya. Then she taught him seidr magic. Heimdall, the guardian of the Rainbow Bridge, has taught runes to mankind.
