Throughout the series, competing cats are introduced and expressed their contributions to the community: Jennyanydots, a domestic gourd tree, increases the productivity of mice and cockroaches; Rum Tum Tugger, a cat (female) who likes to flirt and distract other (male) cats; Grizabella, a charming cat; Bustopher Jones, a bourgeois cat, brags about its weight and shares its scraps of food; Skimbleshanks, a neat ginger cat, jumps along the railroad tracks; Gus, an old theater cat who has played some of the greatest roles in history; and Macavity, a stray villain with a distinct power from the quest to kidnap other contestants (leaving for Tugger) to be selected as Jellicle Choice by default.
Victoria also stumbles upon mischievous twins Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, cats who love to mess and mess things up in their human family’s home. They persuade Victoria to join the fun, but let her get entangled in some collars when the family dog is alerted to their presence. Fortunately, Mr. Mistoffelees came to rescue Victoria, distracted the dog and escaped with her. They return to the group, just in time to see the arrival of the wise and beloved Old Deuteronomy model of the tribe. Jellicle Ball started inside the abandoned Egyptian Theater. Victoria danced alone in the moonlight ballet but was distracted by Cassandra harassing Grizabella, a former member of the tribe who was banished, among other things, of her past allegiance to Macavity. Victoria involves Grizabella’s sense of abandonment. As Grizabella sprinted out onto the street, Old Deuteronomy witnessed their quiet close friendship and assured Victoria that she could become the Jellicle in time.
