The first book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, is a story about a cat with white shoes mixed in by the various substances he entered, but “Pete never lost his composure. static. ” Written into a song, its chorus is “I love my white shoes”, translates to “I love my red shoes”, “I love my blue shoes” and “I love brown shoes. mine”. Then he stepped into a bucket of water and the colors were washed away, and they were wet, but still never lost his composure, he just sang his song.
The book was self-published in 2008 and sold 7,000 copies in 10 months before being picked up by HarperCollins – warned by a YouTube meme in which two little girls read the book – and distributed throughout the States. States and Canada. It rose to number 8 on the New York Times Best Selling List for photo books.
