Alexander Hamilton was the most radical, and most neglected, of America’s founding fathers. He is the most radical because
he saw that America could become a capitalist superpower, and found the institutions needed to realize this destiny.
He is the most forgotten, because, first he is a relentless “jostle” (and no one has a pure opinion of ambition), second, he is a fervent advocate of love. (and no one has a simple view of this) and third, his fiercest rivals, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, outlived him for decades and did everything. maybe to bury his reputation. So there are no Hamiltonian monuments in Washington, but at least now we have Ron Chernow’s masterful and moving “Alexander Hamilton”, and the best biography ever written about this person.
