Studies show that women suffer the effects of alcohol more than men. Women who drink too much alcohol are more likely to have alcohol problems than men. In the US, more women die from alcohol problems than from suicide, accidents and other health problems. Women die from alcohol problems twice as much as men from alcohol.
Drinking the same amount of alcohol, however, the alcohol concentration in women’s blood will be higher than that of men. Because women are usually smaller, the amount of water in the body is less, and the process of alcohol metabolism is slower than “men.” Women who drink alcohol also make the brain and liver more susceptible to the adverse effects of alcohol than men.
