Wine has been with us since the dawn of history. Let’s see how far we have come and what remains from time immemorial to this day. The history of wine follows the development of all human civilization.
The earliest brewing period was about 10 thousand years ago, the ancient period in Colchis region is present-day Georgia. In Egypt, wine played an important role in the ancient ritual life. A thriving royal wine-making profession was established in the Nile Delta after the vine-farming technique emerged from Levant to Egypt around 3000 BC. Wine in ancient Egypt was mostly red. A recent discovery revealed the first evidence of white wine. Analysis of the samples in five clay amphibians taken from Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s tomb revealed traces of white wine. The most precious drink in ancient Egypt was Shedeh, made from red grapes, not as was previously thought.
