The Condor spy group was wiped out. However, German Field Marshal Rommel, who was dubbed the “Desert Fox”, was unaware of this.
In early August 1942, Rommel began to prepare to attack the British. He calculated that the British defenses south of Alamein were weak, and if they attacked, they would easily penetrate this defense line, from there there would be a chance of continuing to attack north to the fringes. the sea then hit the east to the Nile triangle.
However, the clever “Desert Fox” has made two mistakes: First, to get air support, he used radio to communicate with the German Air Force Command Center. Second, to request fuel reinforcements from Italy, he sent a telegram to Rome and Berlin. Thanks to knowing the mining code from the Condor group, the British have decoded those messages.
